The History Manifesto, Jo Guildi and David Armitage (Open Source publication), criticizes ‘short term’ histories i.e. histories that focus on a temporal range of a single life time (micro-histories, historical biographies, etc.). Armitage and Guldi find value and purpose in history that focuses on the long duree (term from the French Annales school of history–Fernand Braudel). According to Armitage, emergence of short-term histories (in the 1960s and 1970s) occurred during a time when History became separated from the public view, public events, including politics, etc. The History Manifesto warns about the dangers of short term histories and the disconnect between history and daily life, public , politics, etc. An Interview with David Armitage and Jo Guldi.
